In saying he thinks Sanjaya is sexy, David Spade joins the Felix Dennis club of straight men who are mysteriously attracted to Sanjaya Malakar. The thing about this is that it’s not actually that unusual or strange that straight men would be reacting to Sanjaya at all. He has an angst free, playful muse-like quality about him. In addition to a forgiving and facilitating public, he has to have something mysterious going on to have gotten this far without having any talent and that’s why men might be attracted to him. He hits a cultural nerve somehow. Sort of in the same way that there is a flow on sense of sexual continuity between bricklayer type guys with wives from suburbia and pre-op transsexuals. The dress enables a level of sexual or sensual exploration otherwise forbidden. So, here with Sanjaya, his lack of status angst or whatever it is that keeps people running back for more creates a certain sexual/sensual/social panic because it opens up desires usually kept under wraps.
