Ever since the fall of Imperial China and the evacuation of the Forbidden City, being a eunuch really hasn't been as lucrative a career move as it once promised to be. You could even go so far as to say that, in contemporary society, castration unconnected to a sex change is now almost pointless and brutal. Leave it to the Indians, who at once point elected a eunuch mayor, to pioneer making them relevant again. After an attempt in 2001 , the Indian Government is back on the case; employing them as part of a shame based initiative to urge people to pay their debts.

Is there anything that shame can't do?
