Madonna is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but unlike everyone else who has been she isn’t going to perform at the ceremony. Reports say that she is just going to be serenaded by Iggy Pop and Justin Timberlake will say something.

Of COURSE Madonna is not going to perform something. That would be like admitting weakness. Plus, I remember this thing Cintra Wilson wrote in her book “A Massive Swelling” which explained that people like Madonna get so freaked out at the prospect of performing at events like the Academy Awards where they are in front of their actual contemporaries because they know just how much talent they don’t have and the thought of standing up in front of a group of people that inevitably includes people with actual certifiable talent scares the hell out of them.

Plus, Madonna is like Brad Pitt in a way. She is acutely aware of how famous she is and so when she does something she knows it’s going to resonate around the world like a tidal wave. Therefore she chooses her appearances with the stealth focus of a fierce laser beam. She wants to minimize output and maximize results.

What a fascinating night it will be on Monday night when this all goes down. It’ll be just like Anna Wintour watching the basketball but will less sport. Same amount of stoicness and snickering though. [source]
