Week #44 in Review

The disconnect between popstar Britney Spears the product and Britney Spears the human became the most obvious it has ever been when her newest album, “Blackout” dropped this week and made a charge for the number one spot on the Billboard charts. As her album climbed to a prime position in the pop music sphere after having sold 124,000 copies in its first few days, Britney, herself, gave a half assed interview to a remarkably collected host Ryan Seacrest on LA radio and was then seen out in public dressed as a slutty rocker chick for Halloween.

The relentless barrage of bad press based on idle speculation about Britney’s personal life continued with reports that she is pregnant again, that she let some random man blow rails of coke off her breasts, and that she went out and got drunk with pro-footballer Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to the speculative rumours, People Magazine reported the breakdown of Britney’s monthly income illustrating that she spends over a hundred thousand dollars a month on entertainment, gifts and vacations.

Musician Amy Winehouse sang at the Europe MTV Awards and while the melody was essentially intact, sheessentially failed to sing actual consonants and afterwards musician Pete Doherty was quoted as saying, “I wouldn’t give her any advice, she’s fine…Perfectly happy and healthy. “

Actor Tom Cruise stated in an interview that he treats all his children in exactly the same way regardless of whether or not they are adopted, Beatle Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills jumped back on the publicity bandwagon and struck hard at her ex-husband in an interview with The Today Show’s Matt Lauer claiming at one point that she had considered suicide as a result of the relentless bad press she gets, performer J Lo’s new film “Bordertown” was reported to be going straight to DVD which follows on in the tradition of her last movie “El Cantante” and the album she released before that; both of which flopped.
It was reported that actor Owen Wilson could be dating pop star Jessica Simpson, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly sent a producer and camera man to ambush comedienne Rosie O’Donnell at her own book signing and then edited the footage to make her look far more petulant than she really was, talk show host Oprah Winfrey went into damage control mode as reports that matrons in her South African Girls’ School were abusing the girls; she gave every student at the school a cell phone and a direct number on which to contact her.

Socialite Nicole Richie was allegedly seen smoking while pregnant according to the New York Post’s Cindy Adams but the next day it was established that the sighting reported by Adams was implausible as Richie was not in New York at the time she was meant to have been seen.
Photographer Mario Testino published photos of a shirtless actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Page Six headlined photos of actor Sarah Jessica Parker in a wedding gown from the set of the Sex and the City movie where she looked like a very old Manhattan matron and everyone was just mad about pictures of a shirtless Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine.
In Australia a crocodile was caught an jailed after it antagonized several vacationers as they tried to tie up their boat and a church in Melbourne started having church services in a pub while in Asia, former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono released an album of love ballads. The northern Chinese city of Zhengzhou banned the use of words such as “seductive” and “foxy lady” in marriage advertisements in an attempt to cut down on marriage license fraud. In the United States, New Jersey resident Andrew Marino, 24 was allegedly found having sex with the corpse of a 92 year old woman and faces 10 years prison if convicted, the EPA announced that squirrel meat in New Jersey is safe to eat. In Texas, a strange beast rumored to be the mythical “chupacubra” was revealed to be merely a coyote and the small town of Albert, Texas was up for sale on eBay. In Europe and the UK a woman in London cremated what she thought was the body of her son only to have him walk through the front door later that day very much alive.

In numbers and records news, a 100 year old Scottish woman may have broken a world record by paragliding off the top of a mountain range in Cyprus, the oldest recipe for bratwurst was discovered in Germany by Historian Hubert Erzmann and a competition to find the world’s best male and female asses resulted in 2 people from the Balkans being chosen out of 130,000 entrants. A German pensioner cut down 122 trees because they blocked his view and Georgian athlete Lasha Pataraia more than likely broke the record for the world’s strongest ears when he managed to drag a helicopter weighing close to 8 metric tonnes a total distance of 26 meters and 30 centimeters (28.4 yards and 11.8 inches) using only his left ear.

“It was very difficult, I was very nervous,” he told Reuters Television. “I hope in the future with both my ears to move a subject twice as heavy as this one. “
