Amy Winehouse hit the ball out of the park last night at the MTV Europe Awards there’s really no other way to explain it. Her performance of whatever it was she was performing actually plays out similar to the purely absurd early work of French and Saunders. People are dragging out the hate for Winehouse now, saying she’s a mess but really, she’s just throwing the ball back in Britney’s court. This is what we in the business call a good old fashioned, international stage “CRACK down”. There hasn’t been one of these in I don’t know how long but they’re actually fascinating to watch. If Winehouse and Spears were lions or baboons there would be screaming and attacking and much wailing and gnashing of teeth but seeing as they’re pop wrecks, the game is so much more intense.
What will Britney do next? How about an unanticipated miscarriage on television or, for that matter, while out in LA dancing on a tabletop. Whatever she does, it’s going to have to be pretty outrageous because, commenting on Winehouse’s performance, uber-stud Pete Doherty said:
"I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.
"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong."
Which is actually entirely true if you’re from the freaking insane planet Pete Doherty is from where up is down and vitamin C is heroin and “fuck off you god damned talentless freak” means “you are my God”. Furthermore, with Doherty's backing Winehouse has racked up some solid freak points.
