A recent study of the behaviour of New Delhi residents found them to be, on the whole, quite unpleasant people who just spit and spout verbal abuse everywhere but apparently it's actually because they're such tolerant and nice people.

"India is a very tolerant society, which is otherwise a good thing. But in such cases, there is no rebuke, so it becomes a trend."

Which means that generally people just repress any reaction to the abuse they experience because they don't want to be confronting but if they decide to be confronting they go the whole way and don't think twice about it.

It seems likely that this is really just another step towards India becoming a dominant economic force. They're half way to becoming just like New Yorkers.
