Santas in Australia are being told to say “Ha Ha Ha” instead of “Ho Ho Ho” because “Ho” could be potentially offensive to women. What’s always struck me as odd about Santa in Australia is that no one seems to think it would make more sense for him to wear shorts seeing as at Christmas time it’s about a hundred degrees in the shade as it falls in the middle of Summer. It’s fine for people to point out the supposed inappropriateness of ho ho ho but it’s not fine for people to point out the complete inappropriateness of a man in a fur lined suit on the beach in the middle of summer. Or, actually, the very concept of Santa Claus in general. Ok, sure. [source]
Residents of the Weidujue Community in Jining, in the eastern province of Shandong have just been told a list of things they cannot do or they will lose their monthly allowance of around $40. "people who swear, hit others, pick quarrels and disrespect elders ... violate the one-child policy or show other uncivilised behaviour" will be punished. “other uncivilized behavior” is good because that can really mean anything at all. That means there’s always the opportunity to smack someone down should the ruling body need to. Phew. There’s no real new information here, it’s more of the Chinese government tightening its grip around people – probably in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics. Paranoia and tension is really what keeps that country moving. They’re so tense all the time. [source]
A group of paranoid freak Russians who are part of a cult are barricading themselves in a cave until the end of the world happens, which is meant to be sometime in May of 2008. There hasn’t been a good cult barricading in ages. I can’t even remember the last group of people, besides the long drawn out horror that is Christianity in general, who really got stuck into a cause like this. So, let’s take a moment to welcome out charming Russian freak assed death obsessed friends to the media. It’ll be interesting and rather tense next May, won’t it? I mean, unless they blow themselves up before then that is. [source]
