Rumour has it that Oprah might play Tina Fey’s best friend on 30 Rock and the interesting thing about this is that I really think acting is Oprah’s Achilles Heel. Oprah earns like $750,000 a day and can alter Western Culture with a drop of her eyelash but there’s this inkling I have that she becomes really insecure and needy and weird when she’s about to perform some character.
Like, she’s the kind of person who would arrive in full high impact sunglass wearing splendor with assistants and dogs in tow and she’s be dictating things to people in between takes but when the camera was rolling she’d need several takes and she’d be afraid of the director. The director would hold her self worth in the palm of his hand. And if she was stuck with a hideous, sadistic director like Francis Ford Coppola she would be reduced to a quivering puddle of whimpering tears but at the end of the day, she’d suck it all back in, remember her status in media, quickly read a copy of Forbes magazine that has her listed as the richest and most powerful woman in America and she’d go back to the work.
The thing about Oprah is that as she read those pages of Forbes and she was having her hair done by one of the legion of assistants, the Francis Ford Coppola tears would literally be sucked back into her face.
